Utilities
Bins
Please leave all rubbish in the two bins to the side of the house. Both bins need to be wheeled to base of driveway on MONDAY night for TUESDAY early morning waste collection.
Meter Box
In the event of a power outage, we recommend first checking Western Power to see whether the outage is an area outage, and if not, you may need to check the meter box for any tripped switches. The meter box is located on a pole near the front gate. All switches should be pointing upwards. Please contact Seaside Homes in both situations regardless.
Kitchen, Living & Dining
Pantry Supplies
Basic pantry condiments fluctuate from booking to booking and we are unable to confirm contents.
Feel free to store your food items. We recommend using the shelving on the left-hand side of the sink.
Coffee Machine
The coffee machine is a Nespresso machine however it takes most brands of standard pods, so feel free to bring your favourite coffee blend (although there is great coffee in Prevelly and Gnarabup!).
Kitchen Bins
The kitchen bins are stored in a cupboard on the left-hand side of the kitchen. There are 3 bins.
- Place only FOOD WASTE in the bottom front bin. Food waste can then be emptied into the the green bin
- GENERAL, non recycling waste can be placed in the back bottom bin.
- RECYCLING can go in the top clear plastic tub.
Please ensure your empty the bins into the correct large Sulo bin near the gates before your departure.
Fireplace
There is more often than not, at least during the winter months, firewood and kindling kept in outside green shed down the LHS of the house. This shed will look locked but it's not. Please note though that we do not guarantee firewood for your stay. If more firewood is required, it can be purchased from IGA, Home Hardware, Bunnings and service stations.
Please don't keep the matches in the wood box next to the fire as this poses a risk to children. Matches will be left above the sink on the shelf.
Children must be supervised at all times when fireplace is in use.
TIP: Maximum benefits from the fire is gained by adjusting the vents (at the front) and damper (on flue) so fire is burning at slow combustion.
If you use the fire during your stay, please ensure that the fire is cleaned out after before your departure.
Books / DVDs / Games
There is a selection of books for you to enjoy and take home if you don’t finish it during your stay. Feel free to add to the collection as well and leave a book behind for future guests to enjoy. There are also plenty of DVDs and games near the fireplace for you to enjoy.

- Use the Altech/UEC remote to select your channel
- Use either remote to adjust volume.
Chrome Cast
The TV is also ChromeCast compatible, so you can "cast" directly from your phone or device rather than logging in via the TV itself (which you can also do if you like).

There is another light for the deck (switch is bottom left hand switch located on the inside near the front door). Please ensure all outside lights are turned off when not in use.

The BBQ must be used on the brick paving near the outdoor shower (where located) and must not be used on the deck or other areas (fire risk!).
There is an outdoor light specifically for the BBQ with the switch located on the wall of the house behind the deck. One switch turns on the wall lights and the other turns on the BBQ light.
Please turn off lights when not in use.
Please clean the BBQ after each use (a scraper is in the kitchen drawer) and replace the cover on the BBQ.

There is a spare gas bottle kept inside near the door to the outside patio.
Spare BBQ gas bottles can also be replaced if required during daylight hours at Bunnings or services stations. Please retain receipt and forward to us for re-imbursement. Please let us know if you need to replace the BBQ gas bottle during your stay.
If you need to switch house gas bottles during your stay, the gas bottles are located down the left hand side of the house, near the sheds. Simply flick the switch to the new bottle and turn the bottle on at the top of the bottle using the blue valve. Please notify us if the gas bottle was switched during your stay.

The garden extends to the wooden fence at the rear of the property and side boundaries, in line with the existing fences. The area beyond the small silver shed at the rear of the property stores garden rubbish and some personal items and this area is not suitable for children.
Wildlife
Possums live in the trees near the house and may get onto the roof and make a noise. Do not harm them (protected species). Goannas, skinks, lizards and birds live in the garden. Do not harm or try to catch them – they won’t harm you though.
**Please keep outside doors shut as skinks and lizards have been known to sneak in!
Other
Safety
The smoke alarm is in the hall near the bathroom. The first aid kit is above the fridge. The fire extinguisher is in the kitchen.
Fires
Be aware! You are in a high-risk fire area!
Open fires are prohibited at all times at this home.
In the event of a bush fire, refer to the ‘EMERGENCY RESPONSE’ plan on the fridge cabinet.
Enhance Your Stay
Respect Flora & Fauna
Kangaroos
The Western Grey Kangaroo is widespread across the South West and is often spotted in areas away from main roads. Be especially cautious when driving at dusk and during the night.
These kangaroos enjoy grazing and resting on lawns at various properties. Observe them from a safe distance, but avoid getting too close.
Lizards, Skinks & Bobtails
Lizards are the most frequently spotted reptiles in the South West. If your backyard or garden has a warm area, you’re likely to have a skink or lizard living nearby! Skinks especially enjoy basking on rock walls. They are harmless but may be drawn to food scraps left on decks or in courtyards.
Possums
The Western Ringtail Possum (Pseudocheirus occidentalis) is a critically endangered tree-dwelling marsupial found exclusively in South Western Australia. This species is now classified as critically endangered. Western Ringtail Possums, along with other urban wildlife, are most active at night, and you might hear them moving across roofs and gutters.
Snakes
The South West is home to both venomous and nonvenomous snakes. In most cases, snakes will move away before you even notice them and will only attack if they feel threatened or startled.
When walking through bushland or long grass on warm days, be mindful of snakes. It is advisable to wear closed shoes, long socks, and long pants for protection.
Never approach or attempt to handle a snake.
Although snake bites are uncommon, they can happen. If someone is bitten:
- Firmly wrap the entire affected limb with a bandage or similar material, such as a scarf
- Call 000 immediately
- Limit movement as much as possible
- Keep the person calm and reassured
Wildflowers
With the world's most extensive variety of wildflowers right at your doorstep, there's no better reason to get outside and discover the stunning species found throughout the South West.
Please keep these important guidelines in mind:
- Pets are not permitted in National Parks
- Enjoy the beauty, but leave it untouched—picking wildflowers is illegal and may result in a $2,000 fine
- Respect private property and avoid trespassing
- Help protect canola crops by staying out of canola fields
Millipedes
Portuguese millipedes (Ommatoiulus moreleti) are part of a group of creatures known as Myriapoda (meaning "many-legged"), which also includes various native Australian millipedes and centipedes. Typically, millipedes live outdoors, feeding on leaf litter, decaying wood, damp fungi, and plant matter such as tender roots, moss, or green leaves on the ground.
These millipedes breed in autumn and early winter, which explains their noticeable activity and abundance following the first rains.
While millipedes play an important role in decomposing organic material in the soil, Portuguese millipedes become pests when their populations grow too large.
Portuguese millipedes are not harmful to humans or animals, but they are attracted to lights at night, which is why they may invade homes. They do not breed indoors and will die without access to plant matter.
To deter Portuguese millipedes, turn off external lights near buildings and minimise light escaping from indoors by using curtains or blinds.
Unfortunately, applying poison or retardants is not effective in reducing their numbers. The most efficient way to remove them is by vacuuming or sweeping them off carpets and floors.
